Jarrell Williams

Who is Jarrell Williams?

Born in Portsmouth, VA Jarrell was born a military brat to whom both parents served in the United States Navy. “Growing up I was always extremely competitive in sports playing basketball, football, track and field either at the recreational, middle school, high school and community college level. Understanding that I needed additional education, I made the decision to join the military, for the educational benefits to obtain a certification or degree”. He joined the United States Marine Corps in September of 2005. Having served in oversea deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait during his 14-year career tenure he understands the mental toughness and what it takes to endure what is expected of a bodybuilding athlete. He is currently an active duty Gunnery Sergeant of Marines continuing to leave his thumb print on the Marine Corps or those aspiring to join.

When did you start training?

Jarrell Williams started training in 2017 and stepped on stage at the 2019 NPC Southern California/Western All Forces as a Men’s Physique competitor. Straight out the gate, he placed 2nd Novice/class D, 2nd All Forces/class C, and 6th in Open.  Becoming nationally qualified, he plans to compete at the close of 2020 year with the mindset of being undeniable, leaving no stone unturned on stage at the national level, with the goal of obtaining his IFBB pro card.

Who are you influenced/motivated by in the bodybuilding industry?

“There aren’t too many tall athletes out there. As our height is similar, IFBB Pro Raymont Edmonds is what I’ve tried to aspire to be, alongside IFBB Pro Frank Griffin. There has been a few IFBB Pro’s that have motivated me and I’ve tried to pick their brains about the sport, importance of dieting, lifting techniques and or have trained with such as IFBB Pro Stan Morrison, IFBB Pro Xavisus Gayden and IFBB Pro Brandon Hendrickson.  All the athletes mentioned, I have such a tremendous amount of respect for and looking to grace the stage with them at some point in my career.”

What drives you?

“I’m here to influence, inspire and motivate others.  I’m here to let those men, women and children out there know that through adversity, vulnerability, pain, heartache and struggle, you can conquer anything you set your mind to. Everyone has a story, everyone has setbacks, everyone has doubt or fear, but what steps you decide to take once you recognize those things are your MOST important. Once you start to realize that you are truly the only author of your story, anything can be accomplished.”

What do you hope to accomplish?

“I think being a US Marine, there is a stigma that goes along with that…being into fitness there also is a stigma that goes with that. I’m here to break whatever negative, small-mindedness those may have of either of the two.  Knowing that I can’t change anyone’s perception, I can influence a small piece of change in their mind which could shine some light. Choosing to serve in the military was not what one might expect.  I needed a loan to pursue a college degree in “Information Systems”. Due to the fact I could not obtain a scholarship or any sort of grant, I told myself If I were to serve in the Armed Forces, I wanted to join what I believed to be the most demanding branch and there was only one on that list, the Marine Corps.  The other is Fitness. Fitness is a multitude of things for many different people: it represents a second home; a hopeful cure to those battling a health condition; safe haven to escape a verbal, physical, or emotional abusive relationship; healthy replacement to drug or alcohol addiction; and therapy to others encouraging them to not be afraid to be themselves. I’ve gone through my share of life’s altering shifts and the gym is my outlet, the place for me to get over what I battle with. I want to leave my mark in this industry by “aspiring to inspire before I expire” by being the same person I’ve always been, myself.” I’m currently stirving to become an IFBB Pro”.

What would you say to those interested in competing in bodybuilding?

One thing comes to mind. “Be comfortable with being uncomfortable…”
