Manuel Gandarilla

Hi! My name is Manuel Gandarilla. I’m from a small town in Gilroy, California and just recently graduated from Christopher High School. I just turned 19 years old and have a big future ahead of me. I’ve been in athlecs my whole life. Growing up, I played soccer, baseball, basketball, football, and sport Jiu jitsu. Jiu jitsu stuck with me the most: I grew a real passion for it and started compeng. I’ve been in 10 tournaments so far including one Naonals where I made it all the way in Florida. I won 7 of those and took 2 in the other 3. I learned a lot of good qualies from the sport, including how to master your mind, body, and spirit. I also learned to be very disciplined and got most of my compeveness from this sport. I had to give up Jiu Jitsu because I moved towns and didn’t have me for it anymore. It was a tough transion for me when I moved from San Jose to Gilroy. During middle school, I got picked on for being overweight and not fit like everyone else. Going into high school, I learned more about nutrion and training and slimmed down. I decided to play football and basketball, but I never got a minute of playing me from both sports. This is when my bodybuilding career started to take place. My diet got beer along with my training, and all the hard work I put in was paying off. I knew that this sport is where my heart is at. During my senior year of high school, there was a posing seminar event with the head judge Sandy Williamson and a bunch of IFBB pros. I aended that meeng and learned a lot of good informaon. I decided I wanted to compete aer that seminar, so I joined independent studies, graduated earlier, and put all my focus towards bodybuilding. Prep and training were fun to me because I loved what I was doing (sll is this way, too!). Also, I had many people supporng me and telling me that I inspired them. This made me very joyful because the whole reason I started bodybuilding was to inspire people and show them that anything is possible with hard work, dedicaon, and consistency. So, I knew then I was on the right track.
